Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF)

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF)

LPBF is a metal Additive Manufacturing process that produces strong, functional prototypes and end-use parts in as fast as a week. It supports a wide range of metals, enabling production of complex, high-performance components ready for real-world applications.

How Metal Additive Manufacturing Works

An LPBF machine uses a high-power laser to fuse metal powder layer by layer. After each layer is printed, the build plate lowers and fresh powder is spread. Once complete, excess powder is removed, supports are taken off, and finishing processes like sandblasting may be applied.

Common Applications:

  • Aerospace: turbine blades, fuel nozzles, lightweight brackets
  • Medical: patient-specific implants, surgical instruments
  • Automotive: complex cooling channels, lightweight structural components
  • Energy: heat exchangers, impellers, valve bodies
  • Tooling: conformal-cooled inserts that cut cycle times by up to 70 %
